Happy New Year Everyone -

Hope everyone had a great holiday and New Years.  STAND is already off to a great year with lots of activities lined up for our members and the community. Thanks to everyone that came out to the December Holiday Party or donated items for the silent auction.  We had a great time and it is always a fun way to raise funds for our student scholarships.

We also had a great turnout at our January STAND meeting where Kathy Shields from the City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health District presented on the various community based health programs in San Antonio.  For more information on how you can get involved in the San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Council or the Bexar Healthy Beverage Coalition, contact Anna Macknak for more details.

Our next monthly meeting is on Feb. 18, at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital where Darnell Waun, RN will be discussing nutrition concerns and food drug interactions for Organ Transplants.  We also are excited to host our annual STAND Luncheon at St. Philip’s College on March 24, where Dr. Amelie Ramirez will be presenting on Salud America! research on preventing obesity among Latino Children. Click here for STAND Luncheon Registration form and information to submit payment.

In addition to our networking and professional development opportunities, we also have some social and volunteer activities coming up.  We hope you can join us for RD Day on March 9 at Cured at the Pearl.  Check out our STAND Facebook page for more details.  Look for more information to come for the next Siclovia event on April 3 to get involved in a great community wide event.  We hope to see you all at our future STAND meetings and events. Stay tuned for more exciting updates to come and thanks again to everyone for helping to support STAND.
