Message from the President
Happy Fall Everyone -
We are off to a great year so far thanks to our STAND Board and members for supporting our 2015 programs. We are now up to 130 STAND members, and the Board has been busy coordinating various volunteer events, legislative activities, and monthly professional development opportunities throughout the community. Over 90 participants joined us for our August Kick-off meeting discussing Food Industry Partnerships at the Witte Museum. We have also had successful turnouts for our September meeting focusing on Malnutrition and Food Insecurity at the San Antonio Food Bank, as well as at our October meeting which featured a student pre-meeting topic and Performance Nutrition for the Tactical Athlete at the University of Incarnate Word.
Don't miss our next monthly meeting, scheduled for November 16 at BMC, focusing on a very important topic - Living Beyond Cancer: The Effects of Nutrition and Wellness on Survivorship. If you are not able to attend the meeting in person, you can register for the webinar presentation on our website. Visit our Events Calendar to register for upcoming meetings and look for the recordings of the presentations available on our members' site.
In addition to our networking and professional development opportunities, we have also had great participation in our recent STAND volunteer activities which have included the Crohn's and Colitis Walk and Siclovia on Broadway. Stay tuned for more info on upcoming volunteer opportunities and legislative activities to get involved in your area. We hope everyone can join us for our December 2 Holiday Party, which helps to support our student scholarships, and is a fun way to celebrate the winter festivities. We have a great line up of presentations scheduled for the spring, which will be focusing on San Antonio's Sugar Sweetened Beverage campaign, Nutrition related to Organ Transplants, Salud America - Obesity Prevention Among Latino Children, and much more. Stay tuned for more exciting updates to come and thanks again to everyone for helping to support STAND.
