Message from the President

Happy new Year! 2012 is finally here and there are so many updates and changes going on that affect each of us. ADA officially changed its name to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics aka The Academy. TDA followed suit and changed to the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics aka TAND. The SADA Board is in the process of updating our Bylaws to reflect these changes and will be addressing whether our local organization should change its name or not. We would appreciate input from members to assist in making the decision. Please submit your thoughts through the survey link on the left or by email through the contact us tab.

SADA Board Elections will take place in March for your new 2012-2013 Officers. We are currently accepting nominations for President, Vice President, Secretary, Chair for Council on Professional Issues and Nomination Committee. Nominations are greatly appreciated and are limited to SADA members. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming more involved, please select the nomination link to the left and make your nomination official. Position descriptions are located in the member's only section of the website within the SADA Bylaws and Standing Rules.

Check out our SADA Calendar for details of upcoming meetings. March brings us National Nutrition Month and I challenge all members to do something to promote nutrition in your work places, at home and in the community. Please share your events with us! SADA will host our Annual Luncheon at St. Phillip's College. Details to come soon!

So many exciting nutrition topics are in the news and will require the expertise and passion of Registered Dietitians. Our goal is to continue to establish Registered Dietitians as THE NUTRITION EXPERT by continuing our relationships with other professional and community organizations within our district.

I am excited to finish up my term as SADA President. So far, this year has been the best yet with record breaking attendance and fundraising activities! I encourage you to share your energy and passion by volunteering for one of our committees or community outreach events or by serving on the SADA Board. I invite you to join us at our monthly meetings and network with colleagues that share your interests and excitement for our field.

Please join the 2011-2012 SADA Board in making this one of the best years yet!
